Dead In Texas

They laid him down,
For a country to mourn,
Dark suit and presidential,
He was gone, shot
Dead in Texas.

His son gave a final salute,
The world watched
And grieved for youth,
For what had already passed,
Long before Kennedy was shot
Dead in Texas.

With a bullet to the head,
Before anyone knew he was dead,
Every man, woman, son and daughter mourned
What was already gone.

For while we feared from afar,
Bays and pigs and Cuban cigars,
The enemy was close to heart,
Living near and in places
Where we burned in hate,
Churches, and

Little girls in pigtails and kerchiefs.

Innocence had slipped and hit its head,

And by all accounts was already dead.

An angry nation got it wrong,

Camelot had come and gone,

Long before Kennedy was shot

Dead in Texas.
